Daytime
An exhausted individual that roams the streets in a state of half conciousness, finding it difficult to remember where they are and where they've been. A dark creature that is often avoided by the more superstitious Crederians, offering them a reprieve from needing to participate in "proper" society...
The Luckless has a knack for getting caught in unfortunate situations, whether it be an encounter with a beast that almost costs them their life, walking through a miasmic forest only to come out irreparably changed, falling into dire nettles, or getting kidnapped by a being that decides to use them for experimentation. Blackouts are common for this poor creature, as is the exhaustion during waking hours.
The weakness persists, and they look on forlornly as they remember their academic pursuits going up in flames the moment their hands lost their color. A flame once burned deep within their core, and through their dangerous and unlucky encounters seem to have lost it completely. Their frustration grows day by day, irritated with themselves and the world and in a moment of pure rage they let out a roar that blows a small plume of flame along with it. In their shock they take too deep a breath and get stuck in a coughing fit that lets out small plumes of black smoke. They take the rest of the day lying down in an attempt to recouperate...
---
The Luckless found themselves getting weaker, and weaker, the toll the miasma took on their body was near unbearable, and in an attempt to find a way to fix themselves ended up causing further damage. They were on their way out when they were given the opportunity to participate in an experimental cure to their illness by a Crederian who'd heard of their travels. The Luckless was told that they'd be given a new life, imbuing their body with a dose of vitality to allow them to breathe easier and extend their lifespan. It was too good to be true, but honestly... what did they have to lose?
Not much it seemed, as once they awoke and stepped out they didn't feel all too different. They didn't feel close to death anymore at least, just.. tired. Perhaps it was good enough. The went back to their normal life, and it took some time, but eventually they began to catch sight of flyers and newspapers that wrote of a series of thefts around town; gems, coin, jewelry, and the like had gone missing from noble homes and the guard will be patrolling more often as a result.
Huh, that's unfortunate, but not really anything for the Luckless to worry about...

Nighttime
The alarm sounds and the shouts of the guards echo off the stone walls. Tall buildings line the streets, windows dark but reflecting the orange glow of the torches held in hand and paw. Rain had passed through this city hours before, and the chill that permeated the alleys made it the perfect space for any creatures looking to do something nefarious... though that was for simpler criminals.
The sound of hooves and metal shoes impacting harshly on cobblestone causes a pleasant hum to escape the creature peering down from a neighboring rooftop. A golden key is transferred from hand to hand, exchanged for a particularly beautiful pendant; both items cycling left, then right, and back again.
"They never seem to look up..."
A quiet crackling accompanies the silence around this being, warm flames licking their horns as it comes to life directly from the hairs on their head. Colorful eyes stare at the guards going in the wrong direction for another few moments before a sigh leaves them. Pocketing the goods, they stretch their limbs in preparation before letting out a shrill whistle.
"Hey now, with teamwork like that you're bound to catch me soon~ Don't let me keep you though, I think he went that way."
The resulting shout is as expected. "YOU! The Cerlham Guard commands you to stand down, your thievery ends here!" Truly predictable, but that wasn't without its charm.
A delighted laugh leaves the fiery bab as they map their path through the surrounding area, "Hah! I could be persuaded, but you'll have to catch me first~" and before the guard get another word in they're off!
The chase is one of their favorite parts.
----------
The Thief stalks the rooftops of Cerlham Castle Town, creating winding paths through the disjointed layering of its roads, buildings, and bridges in search of a home containing anything valuable. Oh they won't miss what they already have in excess, and this thief is very good at staying unseen. With a dim flame that grows exponentially brighter with excitement, this bab has to stifle their cackles of delight upon a job well done. It's no matter, however bright their flame becomes no Crederian has managed to catch him, and this thief does welcome them to try.
Through experimentation, the Luckless was imbued with the trapped soul of a Mantibab who'd been renowned as a master thief. By day the Luckless retains their normal form, but at night it's the Thief's turn to take control, transforming into a version of themself that more closely resembles what they looked like when they were alive.
Two souls in one body. A cursed existance that has surprisingly benefited both; one who was weakening to the point of death and another who'd lost their original body each getting to extend their time on this plane. The Thief enjoys their time greatly, and is in luck, for the Luckless retains no memories of what happens at night. How Lucky
-----
The "Skeleton" Key
The Thief holds in their posession a key known to open any door known to Crederian kind once per day. The other doors they can usually open with a reliable lock-pick but the enchanted key makes certain jobs much easier.

Bid Incentive: cHANGELING fORM
Changelings are Crederians who have some form of ability to "shapeshift", usually only into another single form that is triggered under a specific condition (day/night, every other day, with an emotional trigger, during a full moon, etc). Changeling versions of a Crederian often shift colors, markings, and may update or completely change traits, as well as unlock additional exaggerated traits.
The Luckless is themed to shift during the night, and revert back during the day, although they seem to have trouble remembering that...
Additional Outfit
The changeling form comes with an optional outfit to better suit his themeing which can be unlocked with AB-ing this design at the second tier~
