Setting Up

He always hated waking up early, especially before the sun popped up above the horizon. Yawning, the kanti crawled from his bed and shook out the sleepiness. There was a lot to do today. Sellen had agreed to help out the fairground organizers in Lere, but he had to wake up early. They needed him before the crowd became too thick to work around.

Sellen didn't waste any time, grabbing a quick bite to eat before setting out to the fairgrounds. He walked through the brisk air, breath trailing behind him. Spring may have come, but the cold air was still lingering about! Sellen didn't mind though, it kept him awake and his mind from wandering to the warm blankets he abandoned. It invigorated him to keep going.

When he arrived in Lere, he sought out those who needed help setting up. Luckily, the sun was now a viable light source and quickly warming the air. It was relieving for Sellen. He was directed to an area where they needed help lifting a tent. He grabbed a rope, pulling hard, and held it until poles were put into place to keep the fabric from collapsing. He did a few more before needing to take a small break. It was hard work and not the work he was used to. Sellen was more lean and wasn't used to strength tasks.

Felt good though to get some good exercise in.

"Alright, time to do a bit more work before lunch," he told himself, rising from his break to search for more things he could help with. He was asked to set up some chairs around a small performance stage. Sellen took his time putting each one in their rightful place, making sure to put them in perfect rows until there were no more chairs to set out. He was quite happy with himself and the organizers seemed impressed as well. Sellen smiled and nodded.

It was time for lunch now, Sellen seeking out some of the stalls to see what he could find. Everything looked and smelled so good, that he couldn't quite choose. It was a difficult decision, but meat skewers dipped in a sweet and savory sauce caught his attention. Sellen bought some and enthusiastically sat down somewhere to eat. They were delicious. He felt energized once more.

Sellen sought out more tasks to do, which he was given though each one was lesser than the last until the organizers had nothing left. By late afternoon, everything was set up. The crowd wasn't as bad as he imagined, but the festival wasn't quite ready. Early comers were common. Sellen felt satisfied, and once he was sure nothing else could be done, he bought one more round of meat skewers before heading home.

The sun started to set by the time he arrived home. As he closed his door, Sellen sighed in relief. He sat down to eat his meat skewers, enjoying them as he relaxed.

All in a day's work.

Throwing away his little plate, Sellen decided to turn in for the night. He crawled into his bed, nestling comfortably in his blankets. Warm and cozy. Luckily, he could sleep in this time.
